Two Methods of Drug Addiction Treatment: Biophysical Program

A biophysical program helps people recover without the application of replacing drugs or medications and uses a holistic approach. The term 'biophysical' means something related to using of physical principles and methods to biological problems.

A biophysical addiction treatment is based on the fact that drug addiction usually includes two main components. There is the physical dependency and cravings for the drugs as well as the mental want for them. This type of drug treatment uses a drug-free approach, and incorporates an effective detoxification method that goes above mere withdrawal and actually eliminates the drug residues that have stored in the body. The result is the addict no longer feels the physical effects of the drugs and he now has a sound body and clear head to address the mental/emotional side through a social education method.

A program that addresses the biophysical aspects of addiction as well as the mental and emotional components in a drug-free manner will ultimately provide the best long term results. But treatment approaches universal focus on the individual's ultimate choice to pursue an alternate course of action.

Two Methods of Drug Addiction Treatment: Drug Detoxification

What is important to success in addiction treatment? To resolve this task addiction medicine applies intervention approaches to define specific influences that affect addictive behavior. During therapeutic interviews they try to discover factors led a person to embrace addictive sources of pleasure or relief from pain.

Addiction treatment for people with drug dependency bases on comprehensive analysis of patient condition. This means assessments of acute intoxication and withdrawal, biomedical and emotional conditions, treatment acceptance or resistance, potential relapse and recovery environment as well.

Early treatment of acute withdrawal usually includes medical detoxification. Detoxification or detox is the removal of toxic substances from the body. Drug detoxification is used to reduce or relieve withdrawal symptoms while helping the addicted individual adjust to living without drug use.

Detoxification may be obtained drug free or by applying replacement therapy. It is the medical procedure of replacing an illegal drug such as heroin with a longer acting but less euphoric opiate. The main principle of the treatment is that an addict will be able to regain a normal life while being treated with a substance that stops him from experiencing withdrawal symptoms and cravings.

Drug detoxification is not meant to treat addiction but rather an early step in long-term treatment. Often drug detoxification is included in complex addictive treatment program that lasts several months.

The alternative medicine apply an approach to remove toxins from the body through herbal, electrical or electromagnetic treatments. Therapies include contrast showers, oil pulling, body cleansing, and metabolic therapy. Alternatives to medical detoxification include acupuncture detoxification as well.

Certain diets have an underlying assumption that the body accumulates toxins that must be removed, especially after periods of over-eating or the consumption of non-nutritious and processed foods.
